education

Ivan Illich : believe that a desirable future depends on our deliberately choosing a life of action over a life of consumption, on our engendering a lifestyle which will enable us to be spontaneous, independent, yet related to each other, rather than maintaining a lifestyle which only allows to make and unmake, produce and consume - a style of life which is merely a way station on the road to the depletion and pollution of the environment. The future depends more upon our choice of institutions which support a life of action than on our developing new ideologies and technologies. (Illich 1973a: 57)

i have always believed our schools pump out sheep by the thousands. Illich's theory's are another take on this mess and it's presented in a readable format for us lay people.

i should send this link to that idiotic assistant principal at eagleville school "yo, ms. h, i'm honored we spent so much time over the years in your office discussing my kids apparent problems with conforming to the school rules, i so regret i informed them from an early age to question authority and it's correctness. my kids aren't gun toting, confused, evil or violent, nope, they just want to know why and sorry - just cause you said so doesn't cut it." naw, she wouldn't get it anyway.
