another cave system dying

Some fear growth's effect on cave

petition's making the rounds to prevent Vanders from building the new homes. of course the money will win out. a shame to lose the cave system, this Vanders track record blows. 'Champions Run', a golf course with townhouses nested around it, was built in between rockvale and eagleville with approx. 200 new homes ....... price tag of 24,500 for a town house is sweet, told the kids they should run and get a starter ... but "who wants to live on a golf course" was the retort. city of murfreesboro moving in faster than i figured. visions of lake wolhford all over again and the reasons we left our pretty neat spot on the earth there to begin with.

education

Ivan Illich : believe that a desirable future depends on our deliberately choosing a life of action over a life of consumption, on our engendering a lifestyle which will enable us to be spontaneous, independent, yet related to each other, rather than maintaining a lifestyle which only allows to make and unmake, produce and consume - a style of life which is merely a way station on the road to the depletion and pollution of the environment. The future depends more upon our choice of institutions which support a life of action than on our developing new ideologies and technologies. (Illich 1973a: 57)

i have always believed our schools pump out sheep by the thousands. Illich's theory's are another take on this mess and it's presented in a readable format for us lay people.

i should send this link to that idiotic assistant principal at eagleville school "yo, ms. h, i'm honored we spent so much time over the years in your office discussing my kids apparent problems with conforming to the school rules, i so regret i informed them from an early age to question authority and it's correctness. my kids aren't gun toting, confused, evil or violent, nope, they just want to know why and sorry - just cause you said so doesn't cut it." naw, she wouldn't get it anyway.

Saturday

jobs i'm working my way through

got to work and they threw me at the tables. someone called out, so instead of doing this thang called "door corps" /grin .. im serious, i took care of three tables all by my lonesome. it was non-stop go go go. this 20min turn around on tables is awesome. today i made over 15 bucks an hour and ma' feet feel it. gotta go buy some rockports soonish and had planned on doing just that after work but all i could think about was getting home and crawling into bed.

music

jon and micheal pumping out the songs and are advertising for a lead singer .. finally. yeah yeah. bout time.

more later, that pillow looks awful inviting atm.

Wednesday

jobs and life

jon and i did the mom/son team up today at *waffle house in murfreesboro, they have him training as cook and i'm training the waitress stuff. don't know how long they will let us work together though. possibly until we are trained than move one of us out to a different location. was a pleasure working with such nice people. the manager mike is 22 years old and he is proud of where he is in his job. he started with the company when he was 17 and says he now makes 40k a year. not bad for his age - in this area. he has a valid reason to be proud. he is also very polite and pleasant, always nice to work with people like mike.

the system they train is geared for a 20 minute turn around on tables. so ideally they are looking at up to $1600 till a day, so mike says. he also said the girls make from $70 to $120 a day in tips. i'm doubtful on that, since most of the people i see in there are regulars and if you have ever been a waitress tables where regulars congregate ( it's a religion dun u know ) you know the tips are sucky. the company takes 4 bucks a day out for meals - bah - 2 meals a shift. i can see i'm going to gain some of this weight back i've lost .. grrrrrr boo hiss on that. profit sharing after 1 year service, very nice. the health insurance is blue shield .. and that blows. but it's a neat little restaurant and clean.

don't know how long jon will last as he is taking a big cut in pay, but until his back is healed .. he needs to take it easy. oh yea and after 6 months you get a paid vacation. i'll give it a whirl but i'm such a homebody sustained by the nite. maybe if i can work 2nd or 3rd shift but this 6 a.m. wake up call is a bit much. always gotta bitch about something.
two of the girls were all up in jon's face trying to get him to notice them. was cute. you could see the gears burning -- fresh meat oh boy. he asked me if i had a ring he could borrow. /shrug ... i had already dug one out for myself as i've been down this road before.

computer woes

i'm having problems with working out why the widths on my site are so unpredictable. yesterday it fit all nice and neat and today i have to use the scroll bar thingy at the bottom to read it. .. . dang it - j - why u gotta be all the way in colorado where it's harder to pick your brain. i'll get it figured out. it's mostly terminology messing with me.

reads

picked up Stephen King's new book of short stories. "Everything's Eventual" now normally i don't like his work but i keep reading it hoping his style will change. he is just to descriptive for me and i get bored. but short stories . hmmmm ..

movies

we watched "Elizabeth" with cate blancett, all i got to say is "wow" cate blancett is hot hot hot ... the story line was choppy and i had a hard time following the sequence of events but that could be due to my not being able to hear the dialogue clearly. regardless - i'm a sucker for those period films and anything Shakespearian anyway.

Tuesday

school

jordan in two art classes this semester *mtsu, one of the classes runs over 150 bucks in art supplies. scrambling to get the green bills for the junk. his pell grant was short this term - dab - nab it. there has to be other resources on campus, he just hasn't learned to hunt them out yet.

he enrolled in a math and an english class. not honors this term though. no. no. he says he doesn't want to have to work that hard .. not with art - his fav - heck no, need the time to do the art .. ok ok. at least he is keeping on track and not doing what i like to do .. take all the classes that interest me and stick the requireds in here and there.

he got a job in the community area ~ food service ~ .. so that will keep him in pocket change. whee, here we go again. maybe i should just go back to school with him.

citgo drama

jeanette from citgo called this a.m. ~ the rude citgo manager ~ she is "gathering forces to talk to the labor board of tennessee concerning this manager and his behavior towards female employees". good luck there jeanette. da manager has run off 3 more girls since i showed him my rear. according to jeanette that makes 7 girls in the last month that have walked. wow, if i had that hard of a time hanging on to new hires. i'd look at myself and how my behavior is contributing. apparently it's running deeper than my little brush with the jerk. shall see how it unfolds.

another one on geekness. i don't usually admit to taking these online pop quizzes that have sprung up all over the net. but this one was to much to resist.
You are 48% geek You are a geek liaison, which means you go both ways. You can hang out with normal people or you can hang out with geeks which means you often have geeks as friends and/or have a job where you have to mediate between geeks and normal people. This is an important role and one of which you should be proud. In fact, you can make a good deal of money as a translator.

Normal: Tell our geek we need him to work this weekend.

You [to Geek]: We need more than that, Scotty. You'll have to stay until you can squeeze more outta them engines!

Geek [to You]: I'm givin' her all she's got, Captain, but we need more dilithium crystals!

You [to Normal]: He wants to know if he gets overtime.

connection woes and life

isp's modems connections - they all stink - hate em ~ yuck.
prodigy and yahoo ganged up to provide us "new and exciting content" [translates into: even more small, annoying programs] bleh .. 'trouble' all over again, my computers are raising hell with me.
i was happy with prodigy. i had prodigy working just fine.
now i'm back to working on getting my computers functioning the way i like - again. the h.p. has a touchy modem as it is and does this double dial .. even tho i've changed the string (dunno got me) according to customer service's advice. modem checks out clean .. shrug i'm just not informed enough.
i've added comments ability to the blog.

playing with this imood script cause it's cute. imood

around the house goings on

*jon - michael - jordan and eric played a gig last nite and strolled in around 3am a little happier than they should of been. so -- my guess is they hooked up with some girls. more power to em. gets to where i have to push em out the door just to get some peace and quiet. they are getting ready to do a big gig so this last couple weeks is the first time in years i've actually heard the ends of songs they are practicing. they do sound good tho i must say. now if they would just pick up a singer.

*bobby and jord back on "zelda" ... i can hear the music in my room and i'm reminded of jord and i, when he was 5 or 6 years old, working for weeks exploring that game. i'd get stuck and hand him the controller ..
off he'd go slashing, bashing, bombing ..
like he was born to game.

we were talking about one of our first computers - commodore 64 - and jordan told me he would get so angry at me for making him learn DOS.
poor kid.

Tuesday

computer woes

tuesday afternoon

have had winxp on this machine since the week it came out and am still having problems with it doing memory dumps on me
.. download new drivers as they come out, no updated bios out there, is ok - mine works peachy, download the xp updates.
blah. blah. just to ignorant yet to get it figured out .. more delving and more and more. im sure.

wish we could get cable or dsl or Something out here. miles of fiber optic cable laid down three years ago along main street.
do we get to hook into it? hell no. now the phone companys are in battle over who is going to be allowed to use it. so it lays there. hiding. laughing. we have access to one phone company out here - bellsouth' and they sure don't want any competition.

the saga continued

tuesday morning

citgo drama oh my. well, that job lasted all of 4 hrs. could of been great ..
worked with the only morning girl, jeanette, my age-ish and real sweet.
she was showing me her routine, the cooking area set up, up - keep blah, blah ... all was moving along - until the manager "ted" walked in ..
guess he was in a pissy mood and when a customer called acting the typical - indignant attitude down on him [i see alot of that lately in the public around here] and me being the new girl?
i got laid into .. i listened and asked him "if i did forget to give a lady her change of .72c .. hey, wouldn't the till show it?"
that didn't sit well with him and he kept up his tirade, while the customer was on the phone .. bet her ear stung, along with ours.
after he walked back to his area, i waited a minute got myself all ticked off and nervous, headed back and told him, "not even my kids talk to me that way, i won't allow you to. possibly you do not know how to communicate without yelling. thanks for the opportunity .. don't bother to pay me. goodbye."
shook his hand [wanted to spit on it] and left.

jeanette said 'she thought it was a 'cultural' behavior as these guys are korean' i say, no matter what culture your from, if you had gone to 'vanderbilt university' and spent enough time there to get an m.a. in electrical engineering ..
you have some people management skills thrown in there. guess not.
oh bother .. he's called twice now.
he wants to pay me [i didn't even have time to fill out the paper work] apologize and explain his stressors. he wants to talk to me? like i care about your stressors .. come on.?
so -- off to job hunt again. sigh and i would of loved the job too ..
jeanette and i exchanged phone numbers so that was good.

tuesday mid-morning

aha - jeanette just called.. after i left, he asked her if she was offended and she told him "yes, both of us were. you made it sound as if we were trying to cheat the lady" and i thought she had to much sheep in her. hence his call to me .. neato ~ neato .. maybe there are some all-right ladies in this backwards part of the biblebelt .. i figured by her behavior she was cow-towed. not so .. way to go jeanette

Monday
